A guide to riding your motorbike in Stockton-on-Tees

Located in the north-east of England, Stockton-on-Tees is the home of the country’s best biker cafe, Pit Stop Diner. This place serves fresh home-cooked food daily and every Tuesday night is Bikers’ Night, from 5 pm to 9 pm.

All bike enthusiasts are welcome, irrespective of whether they ride or not. It attracts both sports bike riders as well as touring bike riders, and it was officially named ‘Britain’s Best Biking Spot’ by Motorcycle News.

Located on Bowesfield Lane, this place is a must-visit if you are ever in the area, or just passing through – the food is equally excellent, and it was actually won more plaudits for what it serves up.

With such a large number of bikers and biking aficionados frequenting the area, Stockton-on-Tees is the perfect place to sell your bike.

Too high a price, and you could put potential buyers off (they know their motorcycles like no other, with all the bikes in the area). Too low, and you end up making a loss. So it is important to get a professional valuation of your bike done by an expert appraiser. This way, you can sell it at indeed the right price – not a penny less.

The Teesside Bikers need no special mention. They are the largest in the northeast of England, with 2000 members, and they meet at Pit Stop Diner every Tuesday.

Go camping

There are several places you can go camping around Stockton-on-Tees. In fact, there are 267 sites, each with its own appeal, spread around 40 miles from Stockton. These are some of them:

Beadlam Rigg: This is a 22 mile ride away, but it is a working farm and the perfect place to enjoy the English countryside. Don’t be surprised if Blue, the farm cat, snuggles up to you if you decide to camp overnight – there is an insulated caravan capable of accommodating up to eight people, that also comes with free Wi-Fi to keep you connected to the rest of the world.

Oaks Lakes: This is a fishing site, and you can bag carp that weigh up to an impressive 28 pounds. Sadly, fishing equipment is not available for hire; you have to bring your own.  But it is strongly recommended if you are an angler yourself or want to try your hand at fishing.

Village Green Caravan Park: Bring your camera along and you won’t be disappointed at not having anything to capture. The views are stunning all around, and there is much more to do than gazing at the scenery all day – there is also the Derwent Reservoir adjacent, on which you can go sailing (boats are available on hire) and experience the wind in your hair other than on your bike.

Vale of Pickering: The perfect place to paint, if you like setting up your easel and wielding your paintbrush. Everything is picturesque, and the myriad of colours are a sight to behold. At the camping site, there are also modern amenities like heated showers and loos, plus private wash cubicles and electric sockets.

Akebar Park: This site has a nine-hole golf course as well as a more challenging eighteen-hole one, and a pond on which ducks swim. If you have a dog, your best friend will love it – there is a three-acre play area for dogs. There is also a pub and a restaurant if you want to get some food and drink.

Oak Tree Farm: This is your typical English farm, with pigs, chickens, horses and Shetland ponies. The family that operates it is so simple (they charge just £15 for a group of six people) and trusting that they have set up a honesty box, expecting you to contribute £1 for using the showers. Needless to say, they are also very friendly!

Park Farm: This is the place to go if you want to see acres and acres of rolling English hill plains from a single vantage point. It is a working cattle and sheep farm, so you can also see sheep and some friendly shepherd dogs. But that is not all, you can also go whitewater rafting on the Tees Barrage.
